Value rivers, lakes and coasts

Valuing rivers, lakes and coasts

Pick what to value

Water is valued through river networks and fish stocks. Click a dam or barrier to follow the river upstream from it, click a river to see the stretch fish can reach there, click an eelgrass meadow, a marina or a lake to value it, or draw an area for a bay or part of a lake. Zoom in to see the barriers, rivers and lakes.

It will show

Migratory fish and hydropowerPick a dam and compare the power it makes with the salmon, sea trout and eel it blocks.
Coastal nurseriesClick an eelgrass meadow or a marina, or draw a shallow bay, and see what a marina earns in berth fees, what building it costs in fish, nitrogen and carbon, and what restoring lost eelgrass costs.
LakesClick a lake and see its anglers' fishing days and what they are worth, the great lakes' commercial catch, SLU's test fishing and the nitrogen and phosphorus coming from upstream.
Fishing and trawlingCatches at sea and what bottom trawling does to the seabed, clearly marked as uncertain.
